Alpacka Alpaca Packraft

Alpacka Packraft on Arey Lagoon

This is the Alpacka brand Alpaca model packraft we used on the 2010 leg of our expedition. Made in Mancos, Colorado it meaures 67” long, 38” wide and weighs 4lb 6oz. Although intended for a single paddler we proved it can carry two in a pinch. Due to the weight considerations on our month-long trip we only brought one!

With backpacks lashed to the bow and stern we sat facing, boots pressed into the others chest. Using improvised blades on our ice axes one person paddled forward and the other paddled backward.  Under full speed on flat water we could maintain 1-Knot.
